Known fact – I am a Feed Junkie. I think RSS feeds are one of the greatest things ever invented, right up there with Ice Cream, Chocolate and Louis Roederer Champagne. In preparation for this article I counted all the feeds in my Reader. I am not going to confess the exact number, which are ruthlessly sorted and filtered. Suffice it to say that with all the various niches I am interested in, client’s interests and all the stuff that anyone who works online has to watch, the total is a hefty four figure number. Each section has its time slot in my schedule, it’s how I stay on up to date with everything.
Anything interesting from the feeds gets posted to a suitable home, from the point of view of the interest group that would read this blog, my facebook page is the place most of them end up. Until now it’s really been a ‘memory dump’ for me, I’ve never really promoted it in the way I do those of my clients or my niche interests. Lack of time is probably the culprit there.
A colleague recently tripped over the page and soundly berated me for not publicising it more, “It’s a goldmine of useful links…” Other descriptive terms have been removed as this is supposed to be a family friendly site. So, bowing to pressure, I am going to promote it a little more actively, alongside the revival of a section here.
A while ago I started a weekly round up of the best of the best from the feeds but it fell by the wayside of life’s complications. I have been berated about that as well, so in the interest of protecting my eardrums from any more shouting, I am reinstating it. It won’t have all the stuff I post from the feeds, just the items I think are the best. Occasionally if something is really interesting it might get a post all of its own.
If you want all of the items you need to ‘Like’ my facebook page, please do join me there as well. I promise not to overload your timeline but I can guarantee you will get some items of real interest, and at the very least it will save you having to trawl through 7,984 feeds … oops! Did I just let the cat out of the bag?
